Tour Overview

A private day for 2 to 4 guests, hosted by Simon or Kerry, bringing together what we love most about the Limestone Coast: ancient caves, Coonawarra wine, local produce and kangaroos.

We start at the UNESCO World Heritage Naracoorte Caves, head to Coonawarra for lunch and an Icon tasting at Wynns, and finish with the carers at a private kangaroo sanctuary near Penola. Along the way, we share the stories of the families, winemakers and growers who have shaped this corner of South Australia.

Sample Itinerary

Naracoorte Caves
We drive from Penola to the Naracoorte Caves and head underground into Victoria Fossil Cave, one of the world's most significant Ice Age fossil sites. Your guide explains the extinct megafauna found here, including giant marsupials and the marsupial lion, among chambers of stalactites and stalagmites.

Lunch at Ottelia or Parker Coonawarra Estate
A seasonal lunch built on local produce, with a tasting of the estate's wines.

Coonawarra Railway Siding
A short stop at the siding that carried Coonawarra's grapes and barrels to markets beyond the Limestone Coast from the late 1800s. It's a good spot for a photo too.

Wynns Coonawarra Estate
A glass of Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon at the historic Gables, then a private tour down into the original underground cellar for a tasting of the Icon Series, including John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon and Michael Shiraz.

Confido Coonawarra
A relaxed, guided tasting of extra virgin olive oils at this boutique grove, learning how the season and the grower's craft shape flavour.

Private kangaroo sanctuary, near Penola
We finish on private property with the carers who look after orphaned kangaroos that can't return to the wild. You'll hear their stories and, when conditions allow, join a supervised feed. The sanctuary isn't open to the public, so this visit is subject to availability and may be substituted if needed.

The order of stops may change on the day to suit opening times and conditions.
