Our Half-Day Afternoon Fishing Trip is a shared public fishing charter operating from 5:00pm to approximately 9:30pm.
It is an excellent alternative for customers who cannot join a full-day fishing trip or who prefer fishing later in the day.
Join other fishing enthusiasts aboard one of Auckland’s largest and most spacious fishing vessels. Our experienced skipper and crew will take you to fishing areas selected according to the season, weather, tides and recent fishing activity.
Your Half-Day Auckland Fishing Trip includes:
• Fishing from 5:00pm to approximately 9:30pm
• Approximately four and a half hours on the water
• An experienced commercial skipper and crew
• Travel to selected fishing areas around Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf
• Spacious fishing areas
• Covered and sheltered areas
• Indoor seating
• Normal household-style flush toilets
• Crew assistance and fishing guidance
This is a shared public fishing trip. Customers wanting exclusive use of the vessel should enquire about a private group fishing charter.
Operating season
The Half-Day Afternoon Fishing Trip normally operates during the daylight-saving period.
Always check the date, departure time and return time displayed in the online booking calendar and on your booking confirmation.
Target fish
Snapper is the main target species on our Auckland fishing trips.
Depending on the season and fishing conditions, other species caught may include:
• Kingfish
• Trevally
• Gurnard
• Kahawai
Fishing locations are selected by the skipper and may change throughout the trip. Fish catches cannot be guaranteed.
Fishing experience
The trip is suitable for experienced fishers and beginners.
Our friendly crew can provide general assistance with fishing techniques, tackle and landing fish. Guests are responsible for following all crew instructions and New Zealand fishing regulations.
Fishing rods and tackle
Guests are welcome to bring their own fishing rod and tackle.
Fishing rods may be available to hire for an additional charge. Rod hire should be selected and paid for when making your booking, as the number of hire rods is limited.
Hire rods include the standard tackle required for the trip. Lost or damaged equipment may incur an additional charge.
Bait
Bait is not included on public individual fishing trips. Guests must bring enough bait for the entire trip.
A mixture of pilchards and mullet is recommended. Squid can also be used, although it may attract smaller fish.
Bait can be purchased from fishing and marine stores near Westhaven. Please check store opening times before arriving for your trip.
What to bring
Please bring:
• Enough bait for the trip
• Food and drinks
• Suitable fishing clothing
• Warm layers and a waterproof jacket
• Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat
• Non-slip footwear
• A fishing rod and tackle unless rod hire is included in your booking
• A chilly bin, bucket or suitable container for your catch
A chilly bin or catch container can normally be stored under the seating while fishing.
The temperature can become cooler on the water after sunset, so please bring warm clothing even when the weather is fine.
Food and drinks
Food is not provided on the public fishing trip. Please bring enough food and non-alcoholic drinks for the duration of the trip.
Any alcohol brought onboard is subject to the current product conditions, liquor-licensing requirements and the skipper’s approval. Intoxication, unsafe behaviour or failure to follow crew instructions will not be accepted.
Children
Children are welcome when accompanied and actively supervised by a responsible adult.
Parents and caregivers should consider whether the duration, late return time and fishing conditions are suitable for their child.

This product is a shared public fishing trip.
Groups wanting exclusive use of the vessel, a private fishing charter or a customised trip should contact our Charters Department.

Please arrive early enough to unload your equipment, park and complete check-in before the 5:00pm departure.
The vessel cannot normally wait for passengers who arrive late.
Parking at Westhaven Marina
Paid pay-by-plate parking is available near Z Pier. Park only in white-line public spaces. Red-line spaces are reserved for permit holders.
Ensure you pay for enough parking time to cover the full trip and possible delays returning to the marina.
Parking rates and restrictions can change, so please follow the current signs and allow additional time to find a parking space.
Weather and operating conditions
Fishing trips operate subject to suitable weather, sea and operational conditions.
The skipper selects the fishing locations and makes the final decision about whether the trip can operate safely.
If The Red Boats cancels or changes a trip, customers will be contacted using the phone number and email address supplied with their booking.
